-How to be a Vocally Confident and an Effective Communicator
Improve voice projection, diction, language and style with leading London Voice- and Presentation Skills Coach, Maria Rivington (MA, BA Hons).
- Just how important an impactful, healthy speaking voice is we may not notice until a physical problem like hoarseness appears after talking for a long time or when we can’t make ourselves heard in a noisy environment. Some could have had feedback from managers, colleagues or family about the speaking voice being weak, monotonous or we are aware that we are not able to create the authority we want in a professional or social situation.
Already in your initial session, I can quickly assess your individual needs and can guide you towards a healthy, strong and powerful speaking voice. I will help build your physical stamina, muscular support and vocal projection, strengthening the right muscles in your body to enable you to use your voice as a tool, completely in your control.
Any issues around quality of tone, lack of variation in pitch and lack of inflection or underlying issues around vocal confidence will also be addressed and I can help resolve problems with vocal fatigue, breathing and tension in the neck and throat.
Our voice is an important key-element in achieving what we want in life – my 1-2-1 sessions are guaranteed to put you on the right track!
Learn to relax and manage your fears by learning to plan and execute good content, delivered in a style and that is competely genuine and suited to you.
We will eradicate old habits and self-perceptions that stand in the way of your making the impact you want and create lasting change and choose the right delivery method for you. Body language and your voice also play an integral part of your communication and any issues around projection, diction and quality of vocal tone will be addressed as well as managing the visual impression you create.
Whether it is a formal talk or a social occasion, speaking in front of others is something many of us find very uncomfortable. Any experienced professional can feel very uneasy when asked to suddenly chair a meeting or make a speech. We all have individual reasons for our fears, but the root of the problem is most lack of confidence caused by too little - and not the right kind of – preparation. We can all be effective speakers and communicators on our own terms and I guarantee you I will provide you with the skills you need.
After your sessions, you will end up feeling confident in all aspects of communication, able to view what used to be an insurmountable challenge as a great opportunity!
CONNECTING WITH YOUR AUDIENCE - we will also be accessing tried and tested techniques used by stage professionals, you might think are only reserved for actors and performers. Alongside the technical voice work, we will also look at how you can ensure your message and personality engages with your audience by addressing:
-Resonance. Is your voice resonating properly and naturally?
-Articulation. Are all your consonants crispy and clear enough to cut through?
-Pace. Are you speaking slowly enough for people to hear you?
-Inflection. Are you letting your intention and content of your message govern the inflection and tone of your voice?
-Engagement. Are you mentally engaged with your message so that it reaches the listener?
All the areas above will be assessed and I will then tailor exercises to your needs and plan a sequence of sessions dealing with every component that needs work.

CLIENT REVIEWS"I went to Maria terrified about having to go on radio and TV after a bad public speaking experience years ago. Maria is a genius - addressed physical symptoms and the psychological reasons that were making me panic, and turned it all around. She's phenomally intelligent, helping get to what I wanted to say in a single sentence. Everything changed for me - genuinly. I'm completely comfortable now; events, live national TV and radio. I've recommended her to everyone I know. I will forever be grateful"
